turmite 1 tile

Labyrinths, highways, stripes and crystal-like textures drawn on a grid — some orderly, some chaotic, often both in the same tile.

A turmite is a tiny machine that walks on a grid of colored cells. At each step it reads the color under it, changes it, turns according to its rules and moves forward. The best-known example is Langton's ant. Such simple rules can produce long stretches of chaos followed by perfectly regular structures.

Every tile on tilejar starts as a crop of a larger image, which is then mirrored with a wallpaper symmetry (pmm, p4m or p6m) so it repeats without seams. Download it as a PNG or open its recipe in the generator.
