About tilejar

tilejar is a free library of seamless tiles: images that repeat in every direction without a visible seam, for backgrounds, textures, prints and anything else that needs a pattern. Every tile is CC0, so you can use it anywhere without asking or crediting.

A recipe, not just an image

Each tile page shows how the tile was made: the technique, the wallpaper group, the parameters, the color preset and the seed. Open the recipe in the generator to change the crop, the colors and the ground, then download a PNG. The mixer blends two tiles into a new one. All of it runs in your browser.

How the tiles are made

There are 78 techniques: procedural generators such as Gray–Scott reaction–diffusion, quasicrystals and harmonographs, and crops of public domain photographs. A crop becomes a tile by mirroring it with a wallpaper symmetry (pmm, p4m or p6m), the ones that stay continuous across the edges, so the tile repeats with no seam. Browse the catalog by color, tone and scale.
